Meteora which literally means hanging in the air is a
massive rock formation located in Greece on the northwestern edge of the Sali tea plains
These gigantic rocks reach over
400 meters in height and present an amazing view
Meteora is home to several the most unique geological feature in the world where
the towering rock pillars are an extraordinary sight To behold
these rock pillars were formed over millions of years from a mixture of sandstone
and conglomerate rock and reach heights of up to more than 400 meters
Meteora also has many Caves underground crevices and springs
which are the habitat for various types of birds and animals.
In addition, steep cliffs similar to these pillars are also the site of a
monastery complex which is considered one of the most important places in the country of the gods
. the monastery at Meteora was built on the rounded hills
that surround the Veneas valley
the monks chose the location of this quite extreme monastery carefully
around the 14th century when the Byzantine empire was increasingly being
pushed by Turkish troops the monks moved back until
they found the area of stone pillars Meteora as an ideal sanctuary
They then founded several monasteries in the area with the help of local residents
in the 15th century there were about 24 monasteries that stood in the Meteora
area
. transporting people or goods
However , nowadays
the buildings in Meteora can be accessed
fairly
easily via bridges which are much closer and safer
. together with the monks and nuns in it
is one of the attractions for tourists to visit Meteora
one of the monasteries that is still active is the Meteoron
Agung monastery which became the starting point of organized life in Meteora
this monastery stands on the rock which is the most impressive among the Meteora
Diara
monastery complex
it
is also the largest and most formal of
the Meteora monasteries that still exist today .
through the centuries the Meteora monasteries have
survived as a testament to the strength of faith and the resilience of the human spirit
For hundreds of years thousands of pilgrims have gone to this place to
pay their respects and find peace in their divinity
